OF THE TWO  NAVIGATION STOPPAGES yesterday (Thursday) the one on the Macclesfield Canal could be the worst.

As this is a 'leak' Keith Gudgin reports.

There was a 'leak' on this waterway last March that turned into a breach taking three months to repair. Pictured in the trust's image.

MaccBreach2The trust was able to trace the source  of this current leak and its team has been able to install a temporary sheet in the hope it will not become more severe.

But since the first visit the leak has become worse so stop planks are to be installed this morning, Friday, together with a dam and the water lowered to allow a clearer inspection.

This is by Higherfold Bridge 33 in Macclesfield, with the navigation obviously now closed.

Oxford Canal

Nell Bridge Lock No 32 on the Oxford Canal is also closed.

This is caused by a fouled bottom gate that is causing an obstruction.

We are told this will be cleared as quickly as possible, with a team being in attendance, but navigation is prevented until this obstruction has been cleared.
