LOCK 4 ON THE GLASSON BRANCH of the Lancaster Canal is still closed.
This is due to the problem of obtaining replacement paddles, Keith Gudgin reports.
The trust tells that the paddles on Lock 4 are rotten and require replacement before navigation is possible.
Unworkable
It was on the 5th January that it was discovered that the towpath side bottom gate was unworkable owing to the paddle, so closing the navigation.
These paddles are of a unique design, and replacements have to be made, this likely taking several weeks.
The trust is still waiting, but will install as soon as they do arrive. So of course there is no reopen date for the navigation.
