THE WORKS ON LOCK 88 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal were scheduled to take place on the 17th November.

But these have been postponed, Keith Gudgin reports.

Later date

They will now be carried out at a later date, that has not been given as this is left to the contractors.

So a revised notice will be issued when Canal & River Trust have new dates from its contractors.

Our previously being told it was a collapsed gate, by vandals, but the latest from the trust now tells it is a faulty paddle that requires its team to install stop planks to enable safe working environment to carry out investigations and repairs.

Then it is told that while the stop planks are in place, the team will also look at removing the underwater obstruction preventing the gates opening fully.

But now cancelled

Whatever the reason, the navigation between Lock 87 and Lock 89 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal we were told be closed from Monday 17th November while emergency works are carried out, but now cancelled.

It is not really clear if there is a continued stoppage or not...though the trust's notice claims 'Navigation closure'.
