THE CLOSED ASHTON CANAL is to reopen as repair completed.
It just needs the the scaffolding to be dismantled, Keith Gudgin reports.
After this is done the navigation will reopen.
It was on the 1st October that Lock 18 on the Ashton Canal was closed due to a balance beam coming away from a lock gate, with it then making the lock inoperable.
Heritage site
Then there was a delay due to it being a heritage site and so required permission to repair, that was eventually granted so the repair could proceed.
The removal of the scaffolding should be completed today.
Braunston Tunnel
The Braunston Tunnel and Braunston Lock 1 are now reopened for navigation.
These were closed yesterday, Thursday, due to an Emergency Services Incident that took place in the tunnel, but there is no intimation as to what the emergency was.
