Grand Union Canal problems

AT PRESENT THERE are three closures on the Grand Union Canal.

Clitheroe's Lock 99 at Brentford has its bottom gates leaking and so unable to equalise, Keith Gudgin reports.

Canal & River Trust tell the lock will be closed until the work required can be attend to, with its team continuing to work on a solution.

Gate failure

Lock 54 on the Grand Union at Aspley Marina is only operable for narrowboats due to the failure of a gate.

This will remain in this condition until it is decided what can be undertaken to resolve it, and will then require a stoppage.

Winkwell Swing Bridge

Then it's the usual stoppage of the Winkwell Swing Bridge at Berkhamsted, (pictured) that we reported, but that is still unavailable for navigation, but hopes to be this week.

That will be when the needed repair is undertaken.
