Worry of quarry at Ratcliffe-on-Soar affecting navigation
THERE ARE plans for a massive quarry at the site of Ratcliffe Power Station that could affect navigation.
The plans are for a quarry extracting up to one million tonnes of mineral from around the ground that backs onto the Leicester Section, Janet Friend reports.
Gypsum
The mineral that is hoped to be extracted, is gypsum, that is used to manufacture construction industry products like plasterboard, but there are fears that the massive quarry that will cover two areas will have an effect on the navigation as water may breach into the quarry as it is extended.
In addition to the quarry, there would be a processing centre on site and the gypsum would then be transported by lorry to the East Leake centre, where it would be used to make the construction products.
Nottinghamshire County Council will have to approve or reject the plans.
