Explosion at Chirk Marina

AN EXPLOSION and subsequent fire resulted in two boaters being taken to hospital and a pet dog died trapped in the boat.

This occurred at around 10pm on Saturday night at Chirk Marina on the Llangollen Canal, Keith Gudgin reports.

The fire people rushed to the scene at the marina where a boat was in flames and subsequently burnt-out.

The report is that it was caused by a gas explosion in the narrowboat followed by a fierce fire that also damaged nearby moored boats.

Luckily the two people inside managed to escape having sustained injuries and were taken by ambulance to hospital, but their pet dog could not be saved.

Damage to other boats

The fire then spread to the next boat moored causing damage with slighter damage to another boat.

Eventually the fire was doused but the narrowboat  was left as seen in the NWFRS Wrexham Green Watch's photograph.
