TWENTY boating families had to be evacuated from Northampton Marina.
A fire raged through the marina as a boat went up in a blaze in the early hours of Monday, Janet Friend reports.
One boat was completely burnt out and sank with others suffering damage from the fire, with fire engines and ambulances on site.
Managed to escape
The people and a dog managed to escape from their burning boat with firefighters dousing the fire and using fans to clear the smoke.
The Nene marina was instructed to turn off the power supply and people told to leave their boats, but were allowed back after the fire people had inspected and found no risk.
There were four fire engines on site at the height of the incident.
