Bidford Bridge repair begins
IT WAS in August that an Uber car crashed into Bidford Bridge over the Avon.
The car was wedged on the bridge and an inspection showed the bridge was no longer safe for traffic, as the crash caused cracks in the structure, such was the impact, Roger Fox reports.
Work started
Work to repair the bridge has started and is expected to be complete by the end of November, of course subject to weather and river levels. (Image by Mark Williamson.)
The work includes the instruction of specialist stonemasons, sourcing the appropriate materials and erection of the scaffolding, with access arrangements being made.
The bridge is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and applications for consent to the repair work have been made to Historic England and the Avon Navigation Trust.
Though navigation is not affected, road traffic is, via Binton Bridge in Welford with temporary lights installed.
