New bridge for the Trent
WITH a proposed increase in population Rushcliffe Bridge over the Trent needs replacing.
It is expected that the present one will not be able to cope, Janet Friend reports.
The population of Rushcliffe will swell when the Rushcliffe Borough Council meets the government's proposed new mandatory housing targets.
Another 222 homes per year
These proposed new mandatory housing targets would require the local authority to build another 222 homes per year—an increase of almost a third on the previous targets.
The present bridge will need replacing together with better junctions as Rushcliffe’s population swells, a borough councillor responsible for housing has warned.
It is expected that 4,000 homes will be built together with services, hence the cry for a new bridge capable of handling more traffic.
It is expected that there will be some 'interference' with the river traffic.
