Police still seeking driver that damaged Barrow Bridge
POLICE are still seeking the driver that damaged Barrow Bridge over the Trent & Mersey Canal.
This meant that Canal & River Trust had to meet the cost of repairs.
Such was the damage that it is obvious it was struck by an HGV vehicle, that knocked out a large section of the bridge on the 2nd May 2024.
Closed over six weeks
The bridge, was closed to traffic for more than six weeks after the collision. though it was cleared for navigation.
Derbyshire Police told that the driver had committed a criminal offence by not stopping and reporting what happened, that resulted in Canal & River Trust being unable to recoup the cost from the driver's insurers.
The penalties for not stopping and reporting such an incident include a fine, up to six months in prison, penalty points and a court can disqualify the driver from driving.
