Not looking good for Leeds & Liverpool

THE suspected collapsed culvert on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is not looking good for a quick repair.

The culvert by Wanless Bridge (145) was loosing so much water that 'teams' worked during Wednesday night to cover the hole that had appeared, Keith Gudgin reports.

Successful in reducing water loss

This proved successful in preventing further loss of water from the waterway.

So then it required dams to allow access to the culvert with a fish rescue carried out then the water pumped out so that the damage can be inspected.

The waterway is now closed for navigation between Barrowford Bottom Lock (51) and Greenberfield Bottom Lock (42) to reduce fluctuation of the water levels within the summit pound from lock operations.

The towpath has also been closed between Blakey Bridge (144) and Foulridge Tunnel.
