Victor has his knickers in a twist

I THINK Victor has got his knickers in a twist about the status of CaRT in the first part of the item published on Sunday, writes Stephen Bean.

And the fact that he has 'discovered' it should really not be a surprise. After all, at the bottom of its website pages (admittedly very small) it says 'Canal & River Trust is a charity registered with the Charity Commission no. 1146792 and a company limited by guarantee registered in England & Wales no. 07807276'.

Not unusual

The fact that it is a charity but also a Limited Company (limited by guarantee) is certainly not unusual. I would think that almost all charities of any size have exactly the same set up.

This includes the likes of Oxfam and Cancer Research UK, and a majority I would think of canal restoration trusts and societies, including the one I helped set up in 2000. We also have the exemption not to use the word 'Limited'.
