Lack of water closes Caldon Canal

SEVEN miles of the Caldon Canal are closed die to low water.

This follows the warning yesterday of low water along 12 miles of the Trent & Mersey Canal from Harecastle Tunnel to past Middlewich, Keith Gudgin reports.

Though the Trent & Mersey is not closed the plight of the Caldon is worse with it initially closed along its main section from Hazelhurst Top Lock (pictured) to Froghall until next Wednesday. the 22nd of September.

There is no information concerning visiting boaters trapped in the closure, only that the Hazelhurst Top Lock is chained-up.
