Further work needed before the Rochdale opens

THE mechanical failure that closed Grimshaw Lane Bridge (75A) on the Rochdale Canal needs further work.

This means the bridge at Chadderton remains out of order as the further work and testing requires to be completed before it can be operable again, Keith Gudgin reports.

Fail every three years

It is the hydraulics that caused the problem, that seems to occur every three years, they failing in June 2014 and May 2017.

The team are hoping to be on site today—subject to ongoing emergency works within the North West.
