More canalside development

THE developers are banking on the continuing work on the Cotswold Canals restoration, with now part of it at Stroud that is in water, acting as a magnet for new houses.

The battle to build apartments, shops and offices has been going on for quite a while but at last developers have succeeded in obtaining planning permission that will include 37 apartments, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Boat moorings

The development, that is now to include boat moorings, is to be named Stroud Canal Wharf, though there are no boats, the waterways still under restoration with its connection with the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal.

It is the Cheltenham firm of Newland Homes that has been given planning permission to transform the derelict land that is next to a restored lock on the partly restored waterway.

The developers have managed to cram in 33 waterside apartments overlooking the waterway in a four storey block, with the remaining four being separate houses.
