Many trees blocking waterways

AFTER the violent wind yesterday, Thursday, there are many trees blocking many waterways so boaters are advised to take care.

Stoppage notices have been issued already for trees blocking the Leeds & Liverpool, Trent & Mersey, Grand Union and Birmingham & Worcester canals, and more expected to follow.

But it is not the trees that can be seen blocking the waterways that are the problem to boaters, but those branches just under the water, that can catch the propeller, and even cause damage.

So it makes sense when passing such obstacles to simply float over the hidden branches in neutral to avoid any possible damage.

Contractors are now out clearing those fallen trees blocking the waterways.
