IT WAS the sight of a body going over Belvere Lock Weir on the Severn by people at a local pub that caused the police to be alerted.

When the police, paramedics and firefighters arrived at the Holt Fleet pub, in Holt Heath, they were told that people had seen a body going over the weir at around 3.40 last Friday afternoon, Alan Tilbury reports.

Missing since November

The emergency services then searched the river below the weir and eventually discovered the body, that was later found to be that of David Smith who had been missing from Bridgnorth since the 27th November last year.

Police have issued a statement stating that the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
