MORE development is planned besides the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Botany Bay near Chorley.

Farmland by the side of the canal between Knowley Bridge (79) and Botany Bridge (78A) is to be transformed into a massive combined housing and leisure development, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Planning started

Planning has already started in developing a master-plan for the East of the waterway near to Junction 8 of the M61 to transform it into a massive development which it is expected will create hundreds of new jobs and attract new businesses into Chorley.

The area had already been earmarked for future development with a master-plan being drawn up detailing how the development could look.

Waterfront development

Chorley Council issued a statement stating it had an open mind about what the site could look like but it has the potential for retail, leisure, employment and housing, new infrastructure and increased accessibility to the canal as part of a high quality waterfront development.
