THE man whose body was discovered in the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Blackburn last Saturday has been named.

Joseph Doherty, 31, was found at around lunchtime on Saturday in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal when a towpath walker reported a body floating in the water near to the Raj Indian restaurant by the canal, Alan Tilbury reports.

A post-mortem to establish the cause of Joseph Doherty's death is due to take place today, Thursday, and a decision will be made in due course on whether there will be an inquest into the death.
