St Pancras Lock event

THE Canal & River Trust is making its Open Day at St Pancras Lock on the Regent's Canal something more than a tour of the drained lock.

This time it is making it into an Event, for besides visitors being able to go down into the lock chambers and learn from the experts on its workings and construction, they will also be offered guided heritage walks from Granary Square to Islington Tunnel, Keith Gudgin tells us.

St Pancras water tower

Visitors with a head for heights will also get the rare chance to go to the top of the St Pancras water tower. This was originally built to supply steam trains with water, the Grade II-listed tower was moved in sections by a huge crane to its current canalside location in November 2001.

The Trust is also offering boat trips, having teamed up with local trip boat operator, Hidden Depths, to offer trips on the canal from outside the lock up to the London Canal Museum.

Childrens' activities

Children will not be forgotten, as there will be activities for them aboard the boat Jena, which will be moored at Granary Square.

This all takes place during the weekend of 4th and 5th February, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
