Sunken boat closes Oxford Canal

A SUNKEN narrowboat in the Oxford Canal at Somerton Deep Lock has caused the Oxford Canal to be closed.

The boat sank late yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon, and with the two miles pound being lowered from Somerton Deep Lock to Hayford Common Lock to retrieve the boat, this means there is not enough depth for navigation between the two locks, Keith Gudgin tells us.

No intimation has been given by the Trust when the boat will be raised, only that the navigation is closed until further notice.
