Beating the floods

A HOUSE has been developed by the company Larkfleet that beats the floods by being able to rise on jacks.

Such a house will solve the misery of thousands whose homes are flooded, with South Holland District Council in Lincolnshire already considering plans to build a three-bedroom detached house that can be raised up to 1.5 metres above ground level by eight mechanical jacks, Roger Fox tells us.

Early next year

Work on the house, that sits on a steel ring beam holding it secure, is expected to begin early next year, with many other authorities showing interest, though a great deal of testing is of course first needed.

It is claimed that the jacking system can raise a 65 tonnes house to the full 1.5 metre height above ground in less than five minutes, with it being a modular steel framed design allowing it to be moved on to normal foundations if needed.

Can be moved

The house will be a modular steel-frame design allowing it to be disassembled and re-erected on another site on conventional foundations as a family residence.

Rooftop solar panels and a battery would provide the electricity supply when raised above the ground and the water and sewage would remain connected to the mains by flexible hoses.
