Could be spent on wildlife

A RECENT Press release from Canal & River Trust told that clearing rubbish from its canals cost £1m a year, which could be spent on improving habitats for wildlife.

The report, given by the BBC stated that the survey by the Trust 'found a typical canal lock the size of a tennis court contained a bicycle, a shopping trolley, a traffic cone, four tyres, 67 glass bottles, 150 plastic bags, 23 cans and three windlasses', Roger Fox tells us.

Did not enlighten

The BBC did not however enlighten us as to where was that lock the size of a tennis court...  Going on to tell that rubbish contains pollutants which can poison fish and wildlife, or leave creatures trapped.

Boats were not mentioned.
