Limehouse Lock closure

Published: Monday, 26 October 2015

AS LIMEHOUSE Lock is scheduled for repair during the winter, Canal & River Trust will announce a shut-down when the exact date is set.

In the meantime, British Waterways Marinas Ltd is still having to carefully monitor the water that is being lost through the gates, Kevin Wiles tells us.

Saving water loss

It is advisable to call the Limehouse Office on 0207 308 9930 when planning a journey through the lock. The lock is currently closed approximately three hours either side of low tide to save water loss, this varies with the tide. Some flexibility can also be applied on quiet days.

While the opening times stated allow sufficient time for the passage from Limehouse to Teddington, the return journey can be tight. A little time spent pushing the tide can enable the journey to be undertaken, however that is not very practical during Spring tides, that boaters are advised to bear in mind when passage planning.
