A MAN currently in prison awaiting trial for a sexual attack on a young woman on the towpath of the Calder & Hebble Navigation at Brighouse has admitted the offence.

The 48 years old man, Darren Halford, appeared via video link between the court and the prison and formally entered a guilty plea of sexually assaulting a woman on the canal towpath of the town.

Pushed her down

The court heard that Halford had been waiting for the young woman, attacking her from behind and pushed her down on to the towpath.

He will be sentenced for the attack later this month, and will remain in custody until that time, being told by the judge that a jail sentence would be considered. As a result, he must now register with the police as a sex offender.
