Broken paddle closes lock

The top of the list of emails when we returned was no surprise—a waterway closed through a broken paddle!
This time it's the Shropshire Union Canal where the remaining working ground paddle has packed-up making the lock inoperable, Keith Gudgin tells us.
Northgate Top Lock in Chester is closed until the 'waterway team' can investigate, which should be this morning (Thursday), and a repair can be undertaken.
