A day later

THE re-opening of the closed Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Lock 24E will not take place today as advertised, but is delayed until tomorrow, Friday.

Repairs to the lock are unable to take place today owing to having 'to develop a safe working arrangement for staff to operate the lock' which will not be in place until later today.

Mechanism failure

The waterway was closed over last week-end owing to the failure of the mechanism operating the guillotine at Shuttle Lock 24E, Keith Gudgin told us.

It would appear that the gearbox operating the guillotine had failed, and though Canal & River Trust told that the work would be completed today, the operating conditions for the workers has held up completion.
