Peak Forest closed again

Published: Thursday, 06 August 2015

THE Peak Forest Canal was closed again today (Thursday) and is now awaiting an engineer's report as to what repairs are needed.

Canal & River Trust put the stoppage down to a boat hitting the tail gate of lock 14 of the Marple Flight, which is now closed to navigation Keith Gudgin tells us.

Lasted weeks

It was the last closure of the Peak Forest Canal, that lasted a few weeks, that prevented the crew of the narrowboatworld boat reaching Bugsworth Basin, and doubtless many others too.

The flight is an important link between the northern canals and the Macclesfield Canal and thus the rest of the system.

It is of course not known how long this stoppage will last.

LATEST

Though damaged, the lock is workable by CaRT staff, with assisted passages for two hours in the mornings and two hours in the afternoons.
