Going further off subject the solution to not being able to fish for alloy windlasses with a magnet is the good old jubilee clip.

This has to be galvanised steel not stainless. One or two of these of suitable size on the shaft will solve this problem . If only the problems of the spindles were as easy to deal with!

I have also used this successfully with plastic items such as pump-out deck connectors and the associated 'keys'.

P.S. make sure to trim and file the end ,and then position the 'screw' so as to avoid snagged fingers.
