Police chase ended in drowning

A TEENAGER drowned in the Lee Navigation yesterday (Wednesday) as he tried to escape the police chasing him.

Reports say he jumped in the river to escape the police, but disappeared under the water, and though attempts were made to rescue him with fire and ambulance crews arriving at the spot together with a diver, he had drowned, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Broken into a house

A report by the BBC told he had broken into a house in Clapton, with the police being alerted at which time he ran to escape.

Attending the scene were the police,  dog units, the police helicopter, the Marine Policing Unit and London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service. When his body was finally recovered he was pronounced dead at the scene.
