Trent basin development

THE construction of Nottingham's new residential and community development has started at Trent Basin by the river in the city.

When eventually completed the basin will be surrounded by around 300 apartments and family homes designed around community spaces, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Trent barges

The development is where Trent barges loaded and unloaded on the North side of the river, and though a venture was undertaken to bring back barges into the basin, there was no interest so it did not materialise.

This work is seen as the first to developing the entire Trent waterside in the city, with various schemes in the offing, though many over the past 20 years have been rejected, it believed the council wants a stake in any undertaking, with Nottingham City councillor Jon Collins stating:

"We have long-held ambitions to see this site and the wider Waterside Zone developed for residential use, so I'm glad to see it has started to get underway. It has proved difficult to persuade developers that our vision to transform this unloved industrial area into a highly sought-after community is the right one, which is why we have made some bold moves to get where we are today."
