Ashton Canal covered in foam

IT LOOKS like snow and ice on the Ashton Canal, with a narrowboat covered in snow, but it is foam.

The result of a fire at a chemical plant by the waterway caused a 'wall' of foam to be released into the water, covering everything, including boats, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Foam created

The foam was created when water from the fire engines mixed with the chemicals in the burning building, that was engulfed in fire on Easter Sunday.

The Environment Agency have responded to local anglers who are concerned that foam may affect the fish and local wildlife, and are investigating.
