A work of art

SCULPTOR Tony Darlington has a keen interest in boats, and so accepted a challenge from a friend to make a model of his narrowboat, but not just the shell, but everything inside it.

As the friend wanted the model to display inside his narrowboat, size was important and so a scale of approximately 1:24 was chosen, and though the boat shown, with its fine detail may seem quite large it is in fact just 22 inches long by 4inches wide.

Started

It all started when Tony was commissioned by a friend to make a piece of work, then the friend asked if Tony could possibly make a model of his narrowboat complete with interior, telling us:

"This was ever a challenge but none the less I took it on as the pictures show, with the model an exact replica right down to the interior, everything hand- made the leather swivel chairs are leather and of course swivel.

"All the kitchen units have opening doors and drawers and are full of kitchen stuff, with tiny little books and DVD's on the shelves. Even the tiller works the rudder."

As can be seen there are curtains at the windows, the gas cooker and all the galley equipment is shown, even down to the taps on the basin.
