Waterways for all

INTERESTING piece concerning cyclists. The way Canal & River Trust ploughs on regardless on its mission: 'Waterways for All' makes me wonder what its mandate is, writes Howard Clarke.

Perhaps boaters are not high on the priority list? Maybe the objectives put cyclists, boaters and water voles equal?

A fine job

In which case it may be doing a fine job in the eyes of its masters, hitting targets left, right and on time? Is that how performance bonuses are justified?

Perhaps it simply doesn't want to disappoint and reset boaters expectations?

Maybe it is no longer a navigation but a linear leisure facility? Canoes, twitchers, cyclists, walkers, boaters all.

Be frank and open

Why doesn't it at least be frank and open? It may be afraid of losing revenue but honesty is always the best policy.
