Email: Helps in tunnels

To support Keith Gudgin's recommendations regarding an additional boat light towards the rear of the boat, writes John Howard.

For some years now we have done exactly what Keith had suggested, with one of those 'million candle-watt' style, cigarette lighter plug in lamps mounted forward of the rear cockpit illuminating the whole length of the boat, the tunnel sides and roof, but close enough to the skipper to be manœuvred to avoid dazzling any oncoming boats.

Helps in steering

Having a light this far back along the boat not only illuminates the way ahead, it also helps in steering the boat as you can orientate the boat in relation to the twisty bits of the tunnel, rather than reacting to the gunwales rubbing, or bumping the tunnel sides.

So hear, hear to Keith's recommendation, and pass the word to those who haven't tried this yet.
