Another boat sinks in Dobcross lock

FOLLOWING the sinking of the narrowboat at lock 23A at Dobcross last month, yet another has been caught out and sunk in the same lock on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

The 60ft had, like its predecessor, had its stern caught on the cill of a lock at Dobcross, and sunk as it was descending, and again it seems no one had the sense to drop the paddles to stop the water lowering, Alan Tilbury reports.

Remained solidly jammed

This happened over last week-end, and despite a day's work to free it it still remained solidly jammed, but was finally re-floated the following day.

As we have often related, after two cruises on the 'Narrow', (and witnessed Martin Clark hurriedly saving a boat that had caught its bow on a lock gate and was tilting) boaters really have to have their wits about them when working the 74 locks on this 20 miles long canal, as it was one that had been completely restored, with many of the locks needing particular attention, and boaters just cannot take their eyes off what they are doing, as alas it seems, many do.
