Ashton opens this week-end

IT WAS back on 4th July that a gate on the Aston Canal failed, completely closing the canal, and over three weeks later it is expected to re-open.

The lock gates on Lock 10 were in such a condition that they had to be replaced, once they were made it taking a week to fit them, Keith Gudgin relates.

Replacing

The original metal balance beams will be replaced when the gates are in position and the paddle gear reinstalled.

It was first told that the canal will reopen this coming Saturday, but the latest update in now that the waterway will be open on Sunday.  It is advisable to attempt to contact CaRT however if intending to cruise the Ashton.
