Saved dog from drowning

I HAD a busy time last night, just before midnight my dogs started sounding off. I went out expecting to find someone hanging around when I heard a noise from the canal, writes Mick Fitzgibbons.

I thought it was a duck at first splashing around and I was just about to go back inside when I thought I would check with a torch. What a surprise I could see a dog struggling in the water. After encouraging it to swim towards me. I was a bit wary of being bitten by an unknown dog, but I took the risk.

Pulled it out

I managed to get it by the scruff of the neck and support it from sinking. Then with the help another boater who came to help me. We pulled the exhausted dog out of the canal. With one of us on its neck and the other hanging on to its tail

We are moored not far from Gas Street Basin. Its a male black and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier type and seems to be quite a young dog. Does anyone recognise the dog? Because It certainly seemed to be wanting to get on board a boat. After a rest and drying down with a towel it scoffed a tin of cat food.

The dog is very well behaved, though a bit traumatised. It has been well kept, unfortunately however there was no collar. Which would have helped when getting the dog out. The boater next door has the dog now, because my two would not be very welcoming about a strange dog coming aboard. Let's hope we can reunite the dog with its owner.
