Liverpool Link closed

THE Link from the Leeds & Liverpool Canal into Liverpool Docks cannot be opened for Easter for navigation owing to contractor's material dumped on Stanley Dock bridge, making it unsafe.

Many tons of stone and soil has been dumped, much falling into the waterway, that make it dangerous for boats to pass underneath, so the navigation is closed until the bridge can be cleared Keith Gudgin tells us.

Health and Safety

Canal & River Trust has been liaising with the Health & Safety Executive and the contractor regarding the material on the bridge with the Health & Safety Executive stopping work in the immediate area of the bridge until the contractor provides a 'structural engineer's report to confirm the structural stability of the bridge and a safe method of movement of spoil in a controlled way'.

It is hoped such report will be provided in the near future, after which the Trust will need a guaranteed safe passage for boats under the bridge.  Until then, the navigation remains closed.
