Mechanical AND electrical failure closes lock
IT IS NOT just a mechanical problem that closed a lock on the Aire & Calder.
But an electrical problem too made a good job of it, Keith Gudgin reports.
It was a 'double shuffle' that put the Lemonroyd Lock (7) out of action yesterday, Thursday.
Investigate and rectify
We are informed that engineers will be at the lock today to 'investigate and rectify'. But as this has not you been investigated, it is difficult to see how it can be 'rectified'—that suggests quickly— if the faults are not yet known.
The Aire & Calder was one of the waterways discussed as being able to carry freight at the Westminster meeting with Canal & River Trust, MP's and various organisations.
The locks are large enough on the Aire & Calder Main Line for freight as the picture of Lemonroyd Lock shows, as it dwarfed our narrowboat when we passed though when cruising the navigation.
