Transport indeed a joke

TRANSPORT by canal is indeed a joke as Victor points out, writes Alasdair Lawrance.

There possibly are or used to be gravel/ballast boats on the Severn, and I think in some of the northern wide waterways but I don't know if that is still operating.

Laughable

And the idea of water movement around the Grand Cross is also laughable, as the lack of dredging would mean it would be almost impossible for the average narrowboat to go against the current that would be required to make a reasonable flow-rate.

And just imagine the damage to bridge footings/foundations. Anyone who's been to Llangollen can vouch for that.

And that's without factoring in the extra fuel required to proceed. Will CRT and the rapacious water companies offer to pay for that?
