Dredger frozen in basin

THOUGH it is now somewhat mild weather the Canal & River Trust tell a dredger is frozen in the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal.

So it is therefore unable to move and do its work, Keith Gudgin reports,

Stuck in the basin

The dredger is stuck in the ice in Gloucester Basin, with everything there at a standstill.

It is the pipe work containing the hydraulics that is frozen and therefore it is unable to move, with access in and out of the basin also currently closed to navigation.

As can be read, there are a number of places that are in need of dredgers around the system, particularly on the river sections where silt and rubbish has been dumped by the floods against top gates preventing their use.

So one missing of a limited number will have effect.
