Culvert/sinkhole still has Staffs & Worcs closed

DEPTMORE Lock (42) on the Staffs & Worcs Canal is still closed.

This is owing to a sinkhole appearing by the culvert at the lock.

It has been monitored over the past few days and no further collapse has occurred since water was diverted though the lock.

Sinkhole stable

The sinkhole remains stable and it has not deteriorated overnight. A team has now cleared debris and deposit from within the culvert, to enable inspection and repairs, we are told.

The situation will be monitored over the weekend, and perhaps a date can be given for reopening the navigation, with the trust telling it will be in a position to provide further update at the beginning of next week.
