THE Environmental Agency has decided to close the Barmby Tidal Barrage on the Ouse for four months for 'maintenance'.
From the 1st of September until next year the tidal barrage will be closed and all access to the Derwent prevented.
Replacement of gate seals
The reason is the replacement of the gate seals, but why this should take four months, for what is seen as a few days work, is not explained.
The explanation that is given is:
"The closure will allow for essential maintenance on the navigation lock and ensure the long term serviceability of the structure and its components."
