THERE is a quandary over two collie dogs discovered in the lock on Ashton Canal at Droyslden yesterday (Sunday).
There was concern that the owner had jumped into the lock to rescue the dogs that were unable to get out of the water due to the high side of the lock, and had drowned, but a search by fire crews revealed nothing, Alan Tilbury tells us.
In distress
It was a passer-by who heard a dog in distress leaving the fear that the owner had jumped in the lock and had drowned, and so called the emergency services, that responded with search teams.
One of the collies was paddling away to keep alive, with the passer-by attempting to pacify it until the emergency teams arrived. Then both dogs were lifted out, with the one still alive. However the other collie was dead.
The concern is how the two collies came to be in the lock...
