When Victor Swift was comparing the stoppages of Canal & River Trust to those of the Level Commissioners, he forgot something.
He forget to mention that Canal & River Trust now lists over 50,000 defects in its 2,000 odd miles of waterways, that it admits is increasing week upon week, though I should think the winter maintenance would have cured some of them.
It seems that the maintenance people on the Middle Level simply see a problem and get on with solving it, whilst it seems the Canal & River Trust puts it on its list! The whole problem being of course its own maintenance people have been replaced with contractors, who have little interest or care for the waterways, clearly shown by the ever increasing list of problems.
