SAWLEY Marina has teamed up with the British Heart Foundation, (BHF) choosing it as its charity of the year.

Supporting the charity

This means that its staff and resident moorers will support the charity over the next year with fundraising activities, with Julie Cutts, Marina Manager, explaining:

"We hope to raise as much money as possible to help fund the BHF's research into heart disease. We have just taken part in The BHF Bag It Beat It initiative to support its local shop, and our next event is going to be on the 12th December when we are holding a Christmas fair at the marina—everyone is welcome."

"We're delighted to be working with the BHF.  Sawley Marina purchased a defibrillator in the summer and we trained some of our moorers to use the equipment and the BHF felt like a great charity to be supporting.

Single biggest killer

Coronary heart disease is recognised as the the UK's single biggest killer. For over 50 years the BHF has pioneered research that's transformed the lives of people living with heart and circulatory conditions. This work has been central to the discoveries of vital treatments that are changing the fight against heart disease. But so many people still need help.

Helena Mair, BHF Fundraising Manager pointed out:

"Support from companies like Sawley Marina makes a big difference in raising the vital funds needed to help us continue with our life-saving work."
