THE Canal & River Trust is encouraging its local managers to arrange to have more duck lanes on its towpaths, so the ducks can be safe from cyclists.

The latest are on the towpath at Berkhamsted on the Grand Union Canal, with ducks now having their own dedicated path, and assumingly instructed to use them.

Consulted 2,000 visitors

This all came about after the Trust's towpath code—Better Towpaths For Everyone, with it telling it consulted with 2,000 visitors who wanted 'better towpaths, better signage and better behaviour between visitors'.

The result, we are told, is that CaRT is 'planning a further £10m investment in the next 12 months'.
