THE West Mills Swing Bridge (62) on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Newbury that collapsed in late September will not be re-opened until early November.

It was on Monday that contractors Kier, lifted the bridge to allow a two hours window for the boats that had been trapped to go through, but it will take over two weeks to replace the broken part and install the bridge back in place, Keith Gudgin tells us.

No access

In the meantime there will be no access for boats until the work is completed, which is given as 'early November'.

Boaters have contacted narrowboatworld asking why it is taking over two weeks to undertake a repair.
